Welcome to Association's HIV.LV homepage!
 
On May 8, 2006 Association HIV.LV was registered into Latvian Register of Associations and Foundations. This association was founded by several Non-Governmental organisations: Fenikss SI (Tukums), Saules Sala (Sun Island; Kuldiga), Conscience Ecology (Apziòas Ekoloìija (a rehabilitation centre for drug abusers „Lapaiòi”, Cesis Region), AGIHAS, as well as few individuals. Later, another foundation was accepted into Association HIV.LV - „Social Services Agency „Family Crisis Centre” (a Rehabilitation Centre ”Milgravis”, Riga). And in the year 2008 society „Youth against AIDS”, but in the year 2009 society "Bauskas Impulss" (Bauska's Impulse; Bauska) were also admitted into Association HIV.LV. Currently Association HIV.LV consists of 7 organisations, 20 members, 21 supporting non- members and 3 partnership organisations.

Any legal and/or private persons, who support goals and tasks of HIV.LV, are welcome to join to the Association.

 

Goals of the Association:

 

• to improve life quality for people who live with HIV/AIDS, by actively participating in State policy development in HIV/AIDS area, in cooperation with state and municipal institutions;
• to cooperate with international organisations and networks, to become a member-society of international networks;
• to defend the rights of people living with HIV/in Latvia and act against their discrimination.

 

Tasks, which enable to reach the Goals of the Association, are the following:
 
•  involving into the Association activities non-governmental organisations which work in the area of HIV/AIDS; active initiative of people who live with HIV and support groups of people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as other interested private persons;
• attracting resources for Association member organisations’ support and development;
•  developing and carrying out training programs for activists in HIV/AIDS area;
•  developing support and self-aid group for people with HIV/AIDS, activity in Latvia, by facilitating self-aid organisation formation in Latvia for people with HIV/AIDS;
• jointly developing and implementing projects in HIV/AIDS area in Latvia, in order to attract financial support for the Association’s projects;
• developing and implementing a common defence plan for people living with HIV/AIDS;
• public supervision/monitoring of medical treatment and its availability for people living with HIV/AIDS;
• developing proposals to national programs and independent overseeing of execution of these proposals;
developing legislative initiatives.

 

(Information updated 01.01.2010) In 2010 the Association will: continue their activities in Latvian penal institutions; release a brochure “Recommendations to Patients with HIV and Hepatitis C: Testing, Curing, Support” in Latvian; organize an event for prevention of burnout syndrome. Association participates in the International project in the area of AIDS and mental health. An International report has been prepared concerning HIV infection curing in Latvia, called “Missing the Target”. Association will continue protecting and defending the rights of active people who live with HIV/AIDS. During the winter months Association will continue the environment social campaign in Riga city “How Understanding Would YOU Be, If You Found Out, That a Person with AIDS Lives in Your Staircase?” Next fall, it is planned to lead this campaign in Jurmala, Kuldiga, Liepaja and Tukums. In 2009 the Association continued with activities started in 2008, as well as implemented some new projects, such as:
- work in prisons expanded its horizons to individual prisoner consulting, called “Peer-to-Peer” (peer education), voluntary consultations and HIV testing, prison personnel training in HIV / AIDS area;
- a new brochure for patients “An Introduction To Combined Antiretroviral Therapy" in Latvian issued;
- trainings for NGO workers and social workers all around Latvia; 
- HIV advocacy events in the area of medical treatment availability for the infection;
- the summit of the Baltic Positive Network  for the first time took place in Latvia, thus the capacity of the Association and the Network capacity will be increased;
- mental health and AIDS;
- burn-out syndrome prevention activities;
- Association's HIV.LV homepage development.

In 2008 the Association implemented 5 projects in connection to HIV/AIDS:
- giving educational lectures at prisons;
- keeping correspondence with HIV infected prisoners on life quality preservation issues;
- organizing various training programs for municipal and NGO workers;
- organizing support group activities;
- providing a wide specter of up to date  information at our web-site to the society and activists;
- implementing activities for burn-out syndrome prevention.

Current events at our website are published in Latvian and Russian languages. The Current Event Section is available also in English, but only small part of this Section is translated into English, so, please, do not forget to check the Latvian and Russian sites, not to miss out on something interesting! 
 
Association actively develops cooperation with state institutions. A strategic action plan has been developed for duration: July 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009. This plan was fully implemented. Every member organisation of the Association implements also their own projects.

Association has a mailing list  http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/hivapvienibalv. All who are interested can join by sending a request from groups site in Yahoo! At the moment mailing list has 29 addresses. The primary language of the mailing list is Latvian.
